When you first think of Hong Kong, it's usually city vibes, shopping 'til you drop and food, food and more food. One thing most people overlook when visiting Hong Kong, is the number of easy and accessible hikes. Here I list my top 3, for anyone looking for a more adventurous getaway.
Dragon's Back
Okay, I know you can easily google search this hike, but hear me out. Only a short distance from the city, you feel a whole world away. Surrounded by lush green bush and the South China Sea, you can easily forget you are in the concrete jungle of Hong Kong.
The hike involves a climb, partly up stairs at the beginning with some (me) calling it challenging but push through, I promise it’s worth it. The views from the top of the dragon’s back are stunning. You can catch a glimpse of the concrete jungle peaking out behind the mountains, but otherwise you are completely surrounded by nature. It is here you can see why the hike is called Dragon’s Back.

Lion’s Rock
For an epic view overlooking Hong Kong, this hike is a must. Personally, I would recommend doing this hike in the afternoon, but only if you’re comfortable and prepared to hike down in the dark. I only say this because you will get to experience both the day and night views of this epic lookout, while enjoying the sun setting over the city.
Depending on you path of choice to the top, you will either be walking up a steep road and lots of stairs or a more gentle slope and lots of stairs. Pick your weapon and chase that sunset!

Thousand Islands
I have a feeling Hong Kong has a thing for steep inclines on hikes. Don’t let the tropical vibe of the name fool you. But again, the view is totally worth it and transports you to a completely different world you would never expect to find in Hong Kong. I’ve included this one mainly because it takes you right out of the city to the distant border of Hong Kong, but still within an hour’s reach of the city – crazy right?
If you like flat hikes, this one is for you, mostly on an incline or flat, with a few stairs to reach the view point. It is here that you’ll see the islands dotted around the reservoir, giving the hike its name.
